 Amanda Mackanos is a board-certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who earned her Bachelor's degree in nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She began her career as a behavioral crisis intake nurse in the emergency department of a Level 2 trauma center before transitioning into inpatient psychiatric care. With experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults, as well as in correctional facilities, Amanda demonstrates her commitment to mental health across various settings. While working in inpatient care, she earned her Master’s degree and Post-Master’s Certificate in Psychiatric Mental Health from Walden University, fulfilling her goal of becoming a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to address the growing mental health crisis in America. Her inspiration stems from a desire to reduce the wait times for individuals seeking help from mental health professionals and to provide more personalized care, in contrast to the experiences she observed where patients often felt unheard and neglected by others in the field. Amanda Mackanos is dedicated to providing trauma-informed care, emphasizing a patient's strengths while incorporating supportive medications when necessary. She focuses on holistic approaches that include lifestyle changes, boundary setting, and supportive therapy. By prioritizing these elements, Amanda aims to create a safe and empowering environment for her patients, fostering their resilience and promoting overall mental well-being.
 Outside of her professional and academic commitments, Amanda devotes her time to parenting her large family and rehabilitating horses rescued from auction, transforming them into well-grounded and reliable companions. She also regularly fosters dogs—often those that are pregnant or exhibit challenging behaviors—offering them a stable and consistent environment, along with foundational training, prior to facilitating successful adoptions.
